At the mouth of Lake Superior in Duluth is a strip of land connected to the city via Canal Street.  There are many businesses, restaurants and a slew of sights geared toward tourism.  One of those enterprises is the Mariner Museum which is situated near a massive pier (as seen in my "Dulut's Youts" painting).  On this particular day, the building was crammed with visitors, making it difficult to take photos in my usual clandestine way.  I was on the far side of the room, using my zoom, trying to capture an elderly gentleman intent on a display of a ship wreck. Just a second before I clicked the shutter, he moved out of the shot revealing yet another interesting subject behind him:  three semi-bored teens.  I didn't think much of it at the time and made my way around to the rest of the displays, clicking and moving on.

Later when I studied the photos, I noticed that there was a naturally-occuring composition in the positioning of these three kids which also suggested something about their relationships.  The girl looks directly at us. To the right, wearing the letter jacket with his back toward her and nearer her age, is (one would guess) the boyfriend. The younger man sitting on the ledge looking down at her appears to be the third wheel (who, btw, generated the most interest for me).  The young woman, sandwiched between the two, had a deadpan expression that could open the door to rich interpretation.  It almost screams for a thought bubble.  I have my own ideas on what she's thinking, but I'll leave it to you to fill it in.
