There's not much to say about this other than the fact that I didn't get their permission to paint them, but did it anyway. (Normally, I try to at least get verbal permission from people, if not a signed waiver from them. If I can't get it, I change their likeness if I paint them at all.) When I took this photograph, it really didn't seem very interesting, but my instincts forced me to do it. There was a lot of visual "clutter" around the two women, so it wasn't until I studied the photograph later that I realized what a moment I had managed to capture. It's certainly simple enough, certainly not an earthshattering glimpse into the human condition, but I think it does demonstrate what a lull in a conversation looks like. This is, again, Rice Park on that warm November day when most anyone with a pulse came outside on their lunch break to soak up the remnants of fall. Btw, if you two ladies see this and don't want me to show it, just say the word and it will vanish.
