Sometimes I find it interesting to combine images. The boy in the foreground, the son of one of my commission clients, was extracted from a separate photograph. His head wasn't tilted in the photo, but I painted it that way here to add to the spontaneous, nutty theme of the piece, making it seem as if he had suddenly stepped into the shot to mug for the camera.

The composition is kind of odd with the boy in the front looking right at us. Normally your eye would stay with him and not move much, but two of the kids behind him are looking forward as well. The line of the street coming from the left side of the foreground boy leads us left and up to one of the kids looking at us on that plane. The "wedgie" boy back there is facing the boy in the foreground, so although it's a little awkward, the composition works for me. I wanted it to be chaotic, full of movement, to mirror these uninhibited, carefree kids.
