This is the half brother of the guy in "Camping Feet". They were both here, within a week of each other, trying to make a couple of bucks for a trip overseas. I was happy to help them out, although $25/sitting probably didn't make much of a dent in their expenses. I had asked Logan to bring a few props, things that meant something to him. He explained that his guitar represented the quiet of his mind. (I was in painter's heaven.) He readily understood that I was looking for a candid moment, not a pose. So when I guided him into a "sense memory" excercise (a theatre actor's tool to help recall specific past events and emotions), he dove into it like a pro (although he had no training in that arena). Within a few minutes, his expression, posture, the way he held the guitar, subtlely changed into the vision of a young man in deep, introspective thought. It displayed the universal angst of a young man on the verge of adulthood. He was a natural! I took several pix from many different angles. This one, standing, produced an interesting emotional perspective, highlighting his sense of isolation. Normally, I would have cropped the image closer, losing much of the floor and other extraneous elements of the room, but in this case, the environmental context helps guide the viewer into the young man's world of thought gently, from a distance. An artist looks for specific things within the image that are unique and inspiring to help sustain their interest while working on the piece. What caught my attention here was the fact that his leg positions reminded me of a question mark, starting with the foot tucked under, to the left, up and around and finally to the socked foot in the foreground. |
