I have expanded KieferArt products to include lower cost versions of my artwork. Fully fleshed-out custom portraits take quite a lot of time to create, requiring concentration on contextual elements and overall artistic principles in addition to the subject's likeness. Though the pricing of my custom painting is very low by industry standards, the purchaser would most likely consider it an investment. Oil sketches are a more affordable option for those of us with finite discretionary funds and require much less turnaround time (possibly within two weeks, depending on my work load). |
Oil sketches allow me to develop the subject on canvas for its own sake, without regard for its context. The likeness of the subject is still given as much attention as it would for a fully-developed painting, but the brushstrokes are looser in the general areas of the image with an undefined background, focusing on a few important features. The time expended to create these images is significantly less than full-fledged portraits, so I am able to offer this option to those who would like a custom original at a savings. Your sketch will be painted on a "profile" type stretched canvas (3/4" depth) of a standard dimension. The side edges of the canvas are finished requiring no frame.
The purchase price of a custom oil sketch (single subject) is $65.00 USD (plus s/h and MN tax, if applicable). "Single subject" refers to one person, animal, place or object on one canvas ("place" meaning the scene at the cabin, the old barn, etc.). If you would like more than one subject in the painting, add $30.00 for each additional subject. For example, the oil sketch shown here would be valued at $95.00. NOTE: Canvases larger than 200 sq. in. (approx 14” x 14”) increase in price. Ask for a free estimate. The procedure to commission an oil sketch is the same as commissioning full portraits. Simply fill out the COMMISSION FORM, upload your photos and indicate that you want an oil sketch instead of a full portrait. After consultations, if you decide to commission it, you can make your payment as both of us formally commit to the project. Once I have been notified by Google that your payment has been processed, I will paint it per our agreed schedule, varnish it then FedEx it to you. Gift certificates for oil sketches are also available. Please contact me if you'd like to purchase one. |
